Save with a combi boiler
It seems that every month gas prices are increasing resulting in higher gas costs. To stop the year on year increases you need to look at how you are utilising gas. Fortunately help is at hand, fitting a new replacement condensing gas combination boiler could lead to a heavy decrease in your energy bills.
A central heating boiler needs to be able to provide sufficient hot water to heat your house and provide hot water for laundry. Boilers have a lifetime of 15 years. As boiler engineering advances current models are more efficient than those installed in older homes.
As your existing heating boiler reaches the end of its life there is an increased likelihood that you will save on your gas bills if you replace it. An energy efficient combi boiler can lead to a large decrease in your energy bills. If you have a small home with a moderate call for for hot water a gas combination boiler is probably the best option for you. A combi boiler takes cold water from the mains and heats it as needed thereby doing away with any requirement for the hot water storage cylinder. If you have a gas combination boiler you will find that hot water may not be available in the kitchen if you are filling a hot bath as it heats the hot water as necessary.
A typical gas boiler heats the water and channels it to a storage tank for immediate access. Even though there hot water cylinder may be lagged it will lose warmth leading to waste in the heating system. If you have a smaller home you will find that you could have other uses for the place that the hot water tank takes up.
60 percent heating efficiencies are accessible to you by swapping to a gas combi boiler which will heat water on call for and not require the inefficient hot water storage tank. A combi condensing boiler is more economic than a common combination boiler as it extracts heat from the hot flue gases and uses it to heat water. Using the reclaimed heat to create hot water leads to additional gas savings.

- Things to consider when selecting a heating boiler
One of the first things to consider when selecting a heating boiler is how it will be maintained. Unless you are a qualified gas engineer you should consider getting central heating insurance such as that provided by Homeserce or by British Gas homecare. Selecting a new or replacement gas fired boiler can be a hard task. expense will be high on your list but you also want to think of other matters, you have to take into account how much hot water you will be likely to need, the storage space you have available for heating gas fired boiler components and how green the heating boiler is. The most common gas boiler types are:- Chimney domestic back boilers In the past back boilers were frequently installed in houses, these are are commonly sheltered behind a chimney, when the coal fire at the front hiding the back boiler. Identifying the best boiler You might need assistance in choosing your next heating boiler as this is not a straightforward cost based conclusion. You might begin with the expense but also need to think of other factors, you will need to appraise when and how much hot water you will use at any time, how economical the gas boiler is and what space you have available for the installation. The most familiar gas boiler types are:- Gas Fired domestic back boilers Back boilers are still found in some families, being installed in the chimney they were obscured from view, the fire obscuring the back boiler behind it. If you do not already have this arrangement then its not going to be a first choice for you as the internal water pressure is low, space can be an issue and there needs to be somewhere to obscure the boiler. We recently had a combi boiler installed in our rented property. Initially the plumbers left the cold water feed from the tank in the loft so the combi boiler was only supplying the hot water. Unfortunately due to the differing pressures (i think), the cold water feed was excessive whilst using the shower the overflow pipe from the loft rained from the side of the house. The plumbers have since rectified that problem by removing the cold water tank and using the boiler to supply both the hot and cold. Unforunately the water pressure is now so low that it takes 30 mins to fill the bath. Also the shower now operates too hot and eventually (after a few mins) runs cold then hot again. Any help would be appreciated.... - Can I use a combi boiler along with a pressurised hot water cylinder to minimise pipe run in the house?
I want to put the combi boiler in the basement and use the hot water side to feed the kitchen, utility room and downstairs shower room whilst siting the water cylinder next to the bathroom on the first floor to serve that room and a shower in the loft. Is this a sensible use of a combi or should I use a system boiler and just take hot water from the unvented cylinder?...
