Overlook central heating boiler cover plans at your own peril

Nowadays, there is almost nothing that can’t be covered by protection, from the health of dogs to safety of pda’s. Of course, some things are more important to get covered than others and, with the likes of motor insurance, you may be legally required to do so. If someone has a mortgage from a bank, the lender will require the borrower to take out buildings insurance. Insurance offers security against unpredicted events that can severely affect life and property.

Moving a step down the ladder of importance we find central heating system insurance, such as the products offered by British Gas. These policies are not as widely used as they should be – for while they are not as necessary as insuring the very structure of a house, the gas central heating system of a home is most definitely a necessity and repairing it can cost a lot. If we call someone to repair an unforeseen central heating problem it will take some time for the plumber or central heating engineer to attend which is a big problem as it is difficult to live without hot water or central heating particularly in the winter season. If there is a problem or if your system has not been properly maintained there are chances of producing potentially dangerous carbon monoxide, due to a fault in the gas central heating system.

In the market there are a wide range of central heating, gas boiler and household maintenance plans. Generally service plans start with contracts which includes safety checks and annual servicing fulfilling the householders minimum requirements. In such a plan, the cost of repair and spare parts is separately billed, some of the better quality plans include this enhanced cover. But anyone taking out one of these plans, unless their heating boiler is still under warranty, only has to pay a small amount more per month to upgrade to a policy that covers repairs and spare parts. Increasing your central heating boiler cover to a more comprehensive plan is very important as your boiler reaches the end of its working life. Although a customer may just want their heating boiler covered, it might be prudent to have the rest of the system (radiators, heating controls, central heating pump and so on) covered too.

Watch out for small print before you choose a new insurance policy as there may be limitations or exemptions written into the contract. Some policies allow only limited call outs in a year and fix a maximum amount to be used on repairs during a particular time period. Ensure that you have all your heating needs insured at a reasonable premium, just as you would choose a life insurance or car insurance package.
