My boiler’s not working and we desperately need hot water – the people won’t be free till next Tuesday to fix it! Please help:
The pressure on the boiler is too high – I need to lower it. I saw that there were taps at the bottom, and turned one, only to have the pressure increase even further! I need to get the pressure down.
Help much appreciated, thanks!

You need to drain off water from the radiators, use the bleed valve and a container for the water. just enough for the pressure to drop to 1 will do it. if you make it to low you can increase it again with the valve you opened by mistake.
There should be a drain valve on the boiler that leads to outside your house, open this valve to drain down the pressure but make sure to keep an eye on the level inside the boiler (on the pressure gauge). Should you go too low then just top up the pressure (using the tap you opened before) to about 1 Bar that should be plenty. Once you have got what you need from the boiler turn it back off in case there is a problem with it going over pressure. Lastly if this doesn’t fix the problem do not mess around with the inside of the boiler this can be very dangerous. Hope this helps.
Easiest way is to get a towel, place it around the bleed screw on the radiator and open it. The towel will soak up the water. There will be no need to take the bleed screw out.
look under the boiler or drop the front panel down you should see a valve marked 3bar turn this a quarter turn to reduce the pressure through the pressure relief valve or release pressure at a convenient radiator
