Gas boiler, hot water heater, turn on and off, which is most efficient?
I live in a studio apartment by myself and only need hot water in the mornings to shower. Do i save a significant amount of gas by just turning it on in the morning, taking a shower, and turning it off? Its a bit of a hassle, but if it saves money and gas i think its worth it. Let me know, thanks for the help.
i don’t mean a timer, i mean i got physically and turn on and off the heater, i live in mexico where this is common and didn’t know if it was just a old wives tale or actually true

No…the unit has a thermostat in it to keep the water at a certain temp all of the time…if you turn it off, the unit has to heat the water for use…this takes time and energy…leave it on..!

Timers for electric water heaters can save you up to 75% off your water heating bill. I’m not sure if a gas water heater can be retrofitted to a timer. I’d be very carefull about what you’re doing because gas valves,on water heaters, are not meant to be used like a gas stove valve-on,off,on,off at your whim.
