A fresh boiler can make the winter bearable

An efficient gas central heating system is the best way to get rid of the chill of the winter nights. Heating your home will make it a relaxing and cosy place to be, so therefore you need a reliable and economical central heating system.

The two basic types of central heating systems are called pumped and vented, both of which are made up of a heating boiler, radiators and usually copper pipework.

Pumped systems are probably the more common ones and their main part is a feed expansion tank which acts as the centre core by heating up itself first to subsequently warm up the heaters via the pipes. The expansion tank might fill up at times because of water expansion.

The vented system on the other hand is a sealed system where there is no core heating. Since it is entirely sealed, the feed-expansion tanks are not required. This system offers a major benefit in that it reduces the risk of leakage and prevents other risks such as airlocks; colder countries like Russia can reap great advantages from this systems since it avoids the risk of frozen pipes.

So you might ask what is really the point of getting central heating?.

The simple answer is that it will allow you to heat your entire home or office quickly without compromising the air quality. Conventional heaters like gas fires, electric heaters and storage heaters are also quite effective. However these heaters had a odour around them and they also affected the surrounding air, making it less pleasant as an interior environment.

These air quality issues were eliminated by central heating; but such a desirable environment can be ensured only by periodic servicing of the heating system to keep it running efficiently and safely. Many home owners turn them on immediately at the arrival of cold conditions after leaving them off during the summer season, which is not the proper thing to do. Instead it is advocated that you gradually bring them into use during autumn so that if you spot any problem you can quickly contact an engineer.

It is also important to remember that most home central heating systems allow in dust or air, thus requiring regular drainage. You can achieve this most effectively by putting a a bucket under the valve and opening it carefully to release the water, but you need to take extra care to prevent any additional water from entering the system.
